To celebrate the vinyl release of the new record 'Broken Sky', Declan O'Donovan brings an intimate performance to Hamilton and Sons for his final show of 2017.
“Sitting in a room, alone, listening to a CD is to be lonely. Sitting in a room alone with an LP crackling away, or sitting next to the turntable listening to a song at a time via 7-inch single is enjoying the sublime state of solitude.”
Praise for Declan O’Donovan’s Broken Sky:
“ I’ve found it difficult to tear myself away from this record since first hearing it …every song on the album is unforgettable.’
– Great Dark Wonder
“O’Donovan plucks at the nostalgia of our youth and caresses the nuances of maturity with songs that sound like they could have been B-side on Tea for the Tillerman.”
- Canadian Beats
“…weaving beautiful songs and melodies which herald a vast history of musical influences.”
- The AU Review

Without further ado, introducing:

I've also put together a music video for one of the tunes off of the record, 'Down To The Bottom' directed by the artist behind all the album artwork, the brilliant Dustyn Lucas. There's not enough space here to explain all the work he and others put into this video, so please check it out!

And lastly, I've a favour to ask of you. The point of this whole thing is to find as many people as I can to share the music with, and hopefully connect somehow. Get people listening to the album, coming out to shows, and taking something away from the music.
One of the ways that we can make that happen is if everyone who enjoys the music could share it, comment on it, leave a review for it, and just show it some love online. It's already there in all the places you dig music, you just gotta engage. Genuine thanks for all the support, means the world.
Looking forward to seeing you out on the road this year!
Today 10 songs from my brain premiere in the observable universe. The record is not out until this Friday June 2nd, but you can check it out right now over at The Spill Magazine.
And then let the internet know what you think! oh god...
So thrilled to share this! Directed by the brilliant Dustyn Lucas. I couldn't possibly explain everything that he did to make this happen. Concept, set design, sculpture, filming, editing, waiting, not sleeping... An absolutely brilliant man.
We were also blessed with the help of a great many others in wardrobe, construction, filming, photography, actors, extras, catering, and encouragement.
Special thanks to:
Leigh Savitri McMahon
Happy Piano Day 2017!
First off, my apologies for the disappearing act as of late. I’ve been continuing work on the more uninteresting side of releasing a record; we’re almost there...
I’ll be announcing a single release, followed by the full album release date over the next few weeks. Also in store is an album launch, summer tour dates, and a few other unbelievably exciting things. Stand by!
This past week I was running around Germany to play a handful of shows alongside a few other Canadian acts, and getting to know some beautiful people. We had a great time and they invited us back! So we’re gonna make a quick visit to Toronto next month and then return to Germany and the UK in May, followed by Canadian touring throughout the summer. If we’re playing and you’re in the neighbourhood or know someone who is, don’t be a stranger.
Here is the next couple months of tour dates, with more to come soon:
Apr 20: Toronto, Drake Underground
May 11: Berlin, Madame Claude
May 12: Offenbach, Hafen 2
May 13: Cologne, Lichtung
May 14: Essen, GoldBar
May 16: Dresden, Blue Note
May 17: Hamburg, Spielbudenplatz
May 18: London, The Green Note
I can’t wait to get this new record in your hands, and to see you out at the shows this year. I may owe some of you more of an explanation as to where the hell this record and I have been hiding for the last six months. If so, write me anytime or meet me at the bar after the show and I’ll bend your ear …until it’s unrecognizable as your ear.
A feit tes sein,
p.s. if you're one of the incredible people that helped us fund this record, I have not forgotten about you! Your album will be in the mail in advance of the release date, be sure to get in touch if your mailing info has changed. I love you dearly.
